Pakistan has indicated that it can only enter into talks with india if they deviate from the decision announced on August 5 last year on the Jammu and Kashmir region.
India issued a presidential decree on 5th of August, revoking the status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and consolidating the region with its own territory. Since then, the Muslim-majority Himalayan region has been under lockdown.
The unilateral decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has sparked the most tensions between the two neighboring countries so far.
However, the security adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mueed Yusuf said on Thursday that the only way to resolve the Kashmir issue was to abide by UN Security Council resolutions. And, for any meaningful talks to take place, India will have to back down from its earlier decision of August 5, 2019.
